Find Choppers For Sale
Choppers may also be called a forage or silage harvester. They are farm equipment that harvests silage which may be grass, corn, and other plants that are chopped into small pieces. This is then compacted to store and fermented for livestock feed.
Choppers may be individual units or attachments put onto a tractor. All choppers have either a drum or flywheel with knives that chop and blow the silage into a harvester. Some choppers are connected to a harvester, but some may be in a vehicle that drives beside the chopper. Choppers have different types of cutting equipment on them based on what is being processed. These heads are able to be removed and changed based on the crop. Each head works to process the silage in the proper way for it to be dried out and prepared for use.
It’s important to check the blade wear and condition on choppers. If there is excessive wear, it may increase fuel use. When the blades do not work properly, they crush the crop instead of chopping it. It is important for the gap between the shear bar and blades to be small. This makes for the most efficient chopping. Larger gaps will create inconsistent chop lengths. When maintenance is kept up on choppers, they will be efficient and work well.
