Electric Standup
Electric standup forklifts have become a staple for warehouses and a few types of outdoor work. Unlike a standard sit-down forklift, the standup has some features that are a better fit in some jobs. Here are some reasons why you would need a standup forklift.
Easy in and Out
Since the driver remains standing, this forklift is best for jobs that require pallet building or for the driver to hop off frequently. There is no cage or driving equipment blocking the driver from quickly hopping out.
Rear-Facing Driving
The standard electric standup forklift can be driven backwards but is not meant for longer distances since the cage is too limiting for the driver. The standup forklift is easy to drive both backwards and forwards. The platform allows the driver to simply turn their body and change directions. A standard forklift uses a steering wheel, but the standup features a joystick-style lever for maneuvering.
Fits in Smaller Places
Standard forklifts are not designed for narrow spaces and are about six inches taller than the standup version. If you have a number of narrow aisles to maneuver, the electric standup is a better choice. However, if you are moving material that requires extra height and not in a narrow space, the standard would be ideal.
Better Vision
With the standup forklift, you don’t need a seatbelt which can limit the driver’s vision at times. It also means that the driver can easily adjust their body to shift from forward to rear driving. All the extra movement translates into less neck strain and fewer blind spots. As a bonus, the standup forklift does not require a set brake. Once you step off the electric pedal, the vehicle stops in place.
Suggested Fewer Accidents
Some studies show that because the driver stands during operation, the standup is a safer vehicle that is involved in fewer accidents than a sit-down forklift. It is also widely believed that because the driving is done with a joystick rather than a wheel, it causes drivers to pay attention.
