Hydroseeders come in two main types of machinery, the jet agitated or mechanical agitated. The jet agitated is a more simplistic form of machinery that has less parts. Jet machines use a strong flow to mix the materials together efficiently and spread the material evenly. They are easy to run and are more affordable. They are best used for wood/paper mulches, paper mulches, and pourable mulches. Mechanical agitated machines have paddles to mix their slurry and then sends the material to a centrifuge for distribution. These mixes tend to be thicker than the slurry you use in a jet agitated machine. This machine can also accommodate any type of material you want to use in your mulch and grass seed. Naturally, this machine is more expensive. Neither is better than the other; it depends on the job you are looking to take care of.
Choosing a hydroseeder should also be based on the type of job you need to cover. Jet and machine agitated machines are best used for large jobs that involve slopes, hard to reach locations, and large areas of coverage. Construction sites, roadside, and governmental jobs will often use large machines to do their type of work. Residential, small landscaping, and in-house seeding can be done with smaller non-mechanical hydroseeders.
