Find Double Drop Detachable Trailers For Sale in Michigan

    Double Drop Detachable

Double drop detachable trailers are often used to haul oversized freight. They can also be used to haul the same kind of loads that are hauled with flatbed trailers. Detachable models have removeable goosenecks. As such, these trailers are also referred to as removable goosenecks or lowboys.

A double drop detachable trailer has a drop in the front and a drop in the rear, just in front of the tandem axles. This allows for a low deck height, allowing for loads up to 12’ high legally.

The detachable gooseneck allows the front attachment to the trailer to be removed and the tractor to provide a ramp onto the bottom deck. This feature is useful for equipment that operates with its own power or can be driven, pushed, or pulled onto the trailer with the ramps. This is not possible with a fixed neck double drop trailer, also known as a rigid gooseneck, or RGN.

Once the double drop detachable trailer is loaded, the tractor backs up to the trailer and attaches it back to the rest of the trailer. With a fixed neck configuration, the trailer can only be loaded from either the side using a forklift, or from the overhead with a crane. The detachable offers more flexibility in loading options because you’re not required to load from the top or the side.

Double drop detachable trailers are available in multiple lengths and axle configurations so you can choose the best trailer for your needs.
