VACTOR Equipment

Vactor was founded in Chicago in 1911. The Myers-Sherman Company was originally a pneumatic farm equipment manufacturer. In the 1930s, they moved operations to Streator, Illinois. Starting with milking machines, feed blenders, and grain storage Vactor led the way to innovative manufacturing to expand. By the 1960s, the company started working on design and manufacturing a line of sewer and basin cleaners. They were focused on the municipal marker to assist with these issues. In 1969, Myers-Sherman produced the first combination sewer cleaner that had water jetting and vacuuming. Later in the same year, the Vactor Jet Rodder water pump was introduced.

With over 100 years of history, Vactor has become an industry leader in sewer cleaners, catch basins, jetters, industrial vacuum loaders, and vacuum excavation equipment. In 1970, Myers-Sherman purchased Peabody International. 1985 was when the Pullman Company bought Peabody International and changed their name to Peabody Myers. The new company decided to leave the agricultural business to focus on sewer cleaning. The Vactor 2100 Series combination sewer cleaner was introduced in 1989 and over 13,000 sewer cleaners had been sold at that point.

In 1994, the company was sold to Forstmann, Little & Co who sold Peabody Myers to Federal Signal Corporation. This is when the company was renamed Vactor Manufacturing. Since that time, new products have been introduced. The Vactor HXX hydro excavator was their first hydro excavator. The 2004 launch of the first Vactor HXX PD expanded their production in the vacuum excavation market. The Vactor 2100 Plus Combination Sewer Cleaner was introduced in 2009 showcasing the latest in sewer cleaning technologies.

Vactor trucks are what professionals turn to for their sewer cleaning, catch basin cleaning, jetters and vacuum excavation needs. The focus of Vactor is to manufacture equipment that is built with a purpose, durable, and reliable. The company currently manufactures catch basin cleaners, water jetters, vacuum excavators, and combination sewer cleaners. The Vactor 2100 Series uses high pressure water jetting to clean pipes and a high flow vacuum source to clear any blockages. The end result is restoring and maintaining normal sewer flow.
