What It’s Like to Rent Machinery on Equipment Trader
With a focus on visitor experience in a virtual marketplace, Equipment Trader makes it easy to find the right equipment at the right price. There are over 136,000 units available for-sale, and over 6,000 units available for-rent on our marketplace (data from Sept. 3), spanning across construction, agriculture, landscaping, lifting, and technical trades. While buying machinery is appealing, there are many situations when renting is the right choice. Here’s a step-by-step guide for how to find the perfect equipment rental through Equipment Trader’s online marketplace.
Start Your Search
There are three primary ways to navigate to rental listings on EquipmentTrader.com:
- At the top of the homepage is a “Find Your Equipment Here” search box. To search for rentals, simply select the “For Rent” option. You can then utilize some additional filters, including the category of equipment, make, keyword, model, and zip code. Then all you have to do is click “Search.”
- You can also search for rentals via the “Rent” button. If you have a widescreen browser, “Rent” will appear directly in the toolbar at the top of the screen. If your browser screen is window is smaller, click on “Menu” and then within the dropdown options, select “Rent”
- The “Find Equipment” option in the top toolbar/menu, which functions as an advanced search with more filter choices, includes a rental filter that lets you select “Daily,” “Weekly,” or “All Rentals”. You’ll see three buttons at the top to search for equipment by category, make, and by state. Underneath, you will see a list of filters with drop-downs where you can get even more specific with your filters
Regardless of which navigation path you choose, the search results will allow you to adjust your search with additional filters, such as location, price range, and whether you’re looking for new or used equipment. You can also get more specific with the year, size, make/model, class, seller type, and much more based on what exactly what you want.
Get All the Details
Once you are browsing the search results, click on a listing to see more details. This is where information will be available profiling the equipment so you know exactly what you’re renting. It’s also where you’ll find more photos and videos to get a sense of the equipment in-action; the price; a description section; and a details section that includes make, model, year, factory specs, operational details, hydraulics, and more. There will also be a link to the dealer’s website, as well as their phone number. This way you can text or call them for a personalized experience when searching for your rental and obtain any further answers to questions you may have about the listed equipment.
Compare Listings
Comparing listings is an essential part of your research. Just because the heavy equipment in one listing could do the work, does not mean there’s not better machinery or a better deal out there. Compare pricing, travel distance to the dealership, dealer reputations, and anything else that’s relevant to you. Eventually, you’ll start to eliminate choices that don’t meet your requirements and you’ll get closer to making your decision.
Contact the Dealer for More Information
Once you’ve found the specific equipment listing you’re interested in, you can provide your contact information to send an email to the dealer. This includes providing your full name, email address, phone number, rental dates, and any comments or requests you’d like to include. Then you can click “Send Email.” When communicating with the dealer, be sure you understand all of your relevant contractual obligations, including approved equipment use, liability, and if you have to pick up and drop off the machinery or if they provide delivery services.
